Unfortunately 0.8.8 comes with an issue that would create an unusable desktop. This was reported upstream and can be prevented by creating a new patch based on the change in the old patch11. The return code if plymouth is running should remain EX_UNAVAILABLE and not EX_OK (as currently in the source of 0.8.8). Otherwise plymouth will be started twice.
