I've received more info now. The patch was developed for a SUSE customer running OpenLDAP 2.4.41. Upstream numerous changes to back-mdb went into newer releases since then. So I'd recommend to not simply patch 2.4.46 herein and rather clarify with upstream developers whether the patch is effective at all.
