It uses the LZMA compression algorithm from 7-zip, and a powerful block merging mechanism, that is especially efficient with gigabytes of large files having lots of redundancy. The primary design goal of cromfs is compression power. It is much slower than its peers, and uses more RAM. If all you care about is powerful compression and random file access, then you will be happy with cromfs.
