In case both (libz and libz-ng-compat) are installed, which one takes priority?
I think libz-ng-compat would take priority due to the linker configuration.
Exactly ... nevertheless using LD_PRELOAD or LD_LIBRARY_PATH allows to specify an other path e.g. for the old libz.so.1
With these changes, it's easier to transition to zlib-ng. LGTM.
