Involved Projects and Packages
Interested in building packages to support mathematical modelling on Linux, particularly the ASCEND modelling environment and some related packages.
ASCEND IV is both a large-scale object-oriented mathematical
modeling environment and a strongly typed mathematical modeling
language. Although ASCEND has primarily been developed by Chemical
Engineers, great care has been exercised to assure that it is
domain independent. ASCEND can support modeling activities in
fields from Architecture to (computational) Zoology.

CUnit is a lightweight system for writing, administering, and running unit tests in C. It provides C programmers a basic testing functionality with a flexible variety of user interfaces.
CUnit is built as a static library which is linked with the user's testing code. It uses a simple framework for building test structures, and provides a rich set of assertions for testing common data types. In addition, several different interfaces are provided for running tests and reporting results. These interfaces currently include:
distcc is a distributed compilation front-end. It sends command lines
and preprocessed files to other machines, that ship the resulting
object file and compiler output back. It gives significant speed ups
with make -jN.
FITYK is a general-purpose curve-fitting program with a nice wxWidget GUI.
It can be used to fit polynomials as well as arbitrary functions to y=f(x) data, and has some particular strength in its ability to fitting to 'peaks' in data, eg in the area of spectroscopy.
It comes with scripting ability using its own simple language, as well as the ability to be scripted using Python.
Fityk is now in Fedora 6-7, so packages disabled for those repos.
This is Henri Gavin's 2D/3D frame analysis program, for analysing the stresses, deflections and natural frequencies of 2D and 3D frames and trusses, with elastic and geometric stiffness.
Computes the static deflections, reactions, internal element forces, natural frequencies, mode shapes and modal participation factors of two- and three- dimensional elastic structures using direct stiffness and mass assembly. Graphical output and mode shape animation via Gnuplot version 4.0.
This is an implementation of the correlations for the thermodynamic and transport properties of water and steam that were published by the International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam. It allows you to compute steam properties from C++ and also Python. Bindings are also provided to allow steam properties to be embedded in models using the ASCEND modelling environment.
GDL is a free IDL-compatible incremental compiler (ie. runs IDL programs).
IDL (Interactive Data Language) is a registered trademark of Research Systems Inc.
This is a dummy package that builds placeholder shared libraries for the main scientific routines from the HSL Archive. HSL is not open source software; this package exists to provide a way for dependent software to be build in the absence of HSL, and for the user to provide the missing stuff later, at runtime.
If you download your own copy of the FORTRAN files from the HSL Archive, you can rebuild this package to give real HSL libraries. See the file README.txt in the source code tarball in the .src.rpm.
Packages dependendent on this package should place the following in their .spec file: "Requires: hsl-libs || hsl-dummy".
This is the IPOPT interior point optimisation solver from the COIN-OR project. It is one of only two or three active open-source NLP optimisation packages.
Player for Last.fm
Buiding this for use on Fedora 5.
This is the LyX document processor, great for scientific report writing, academic paper, etc. Created this version because current release on Fedora 7 contains a crashing bug.
This package is based on the package 'msynctool' from project 'OpenSync:OpenSync-0.3x'.
Command line interface for libopensync to allow synchronization on machines which lack a X server. It relies on the OpenSync framework to do the actual synchronization.
You need to install the libopensync package and the plugins for it, too.
a raytracing program with a nice scene description language
This is the DBAPI interface for Python as used by ViewVC
This package was based on the package 'scons' from project 'devel:tools:building'.
This is the SCons build tool. SCons is not provided in a sufficiently recent version on all distros. Where needed, this package will provide a newer version to allow other packages in this project to be built.
Suite of non-linear DIfferential/ALgebraic solvers (AFAICR)
SWIG is required here for Mandriva 2006, SUSE 10.0 and FC5, because those distributions don't provide a recent enough version.
