Python is an interpreted, object-oriented programming language, and is often compared to Tcl, Perl, Scheme, or Java. You can find an overview of Python in the documentation and tutorials included in the python-doc (HTML) or python-doc-pdf (PDF) packages.

If you want to install third party modules using distutils, you need to install python-devel package.

lxml is a Pythonic binding for the libxml2 and libxslt libraries. It
follows the ElementTree API as much as possible, building it on top of
the native libxml2 tree. It also extends this API to expose libxml2 and
libxslt specific functionality, such as XPath, Relax NG, XML Schema,
XSLT, and c14n.

Python 3000 is the next step in Python language evolution.

*** Python3 is beta quality. The packaging work is alpha quality. It might work, it might eat your cat's food, or both. Use at your own risk. ***

This package was branched from devel:languages:python in order to provide a python3 version

PyQt is a set of Python bindings for Trolltech's Qt application
framework and runs on all platforms supported by Qt including Windows,
MacOS/X and Linux. There are two sets of bindings: PyQt v4 supports Qt
v4; and the older PyQt v3 supports Qt v3 and earlier. The bindings are
implemented as a set of Python modules and contain over 300 classes and
nearly 6,000 functions and methods.

SIP is a tool that makes it very easy to create Python bindings for C
and C++ libraries. It was originally developed to create PyQt, the
Python bindings for the Qt toolkit, but can be used to create bindings
for any C or C++ library.
