DjVu is a Web-centric format and software platform for distributing
documents and images. DjVuLibre is an open source (GPL) implementation
of DjVu, including viewers, browser plug-ins, decoders, simple
encoders, and utilities. DjVu can advantageously replace PDF, PS, TIFF,
JPEG, and GIF for distributing scanned documents, digital documents, or
high-resolution pictures. DjVu content downloads faster, displays and
renders faster, looks nicer on a screen, and consumes less client
resources than competing formats. DjVu images display instantly and can
be smoothly zoomed and panned with no lengthy rerendering. DjVu is used
by hundreds of academic, commercial, governmental, and noncommercial
Web sites around the world.
DjView4 is a viewer and browser plugin for DjVu documents,based on the
DjVuLibre-3.5 library and the Qt4 toolkit.
Gd allows your code to quickly draw images complete with lines, arcs, text, and multiple colors. It supports cut and paste from other images and flood fills. It outputs PNG, JPEG, and WBMP (for wireless devices) and is supported by PHP.

It is capable of displaying still images and animations using the X Window system which provides a simple interface forinteractively editing images, and is capable of importing selected windows or the entire desktop. GraphicsMagick is one of your choices if you need a program to manipulate and display images.It can read and write over 88 image formats, including JPEG, TIFF, WMF, SVG, PNG, PNM, GIF, andPhoto CD. Besides it allows you to resize, rotate, sharpen, color reduce, or add special effects to an image and to save the result to any supported format. GraphicsMagick may be used to create animated or transparent .gifs, to composite images, to create thumbnail images and a lot more. If you want to develop your own applications which use GraphicsMagick code or APIs, you need to install GraphicsMagick-devel as well.
Hugin can be used to stitch multiple images together. The resulting image can span 360 degrees. Another common use is the creation of very high resolution pictures by combining multiple images.
Other tools in this package can correct lens distortion, vignetting and chromatic abberation, create HDR images, provide automatic feature detection and extraction of key points.
ImageMagick is a robust collection of tools and libraries to read, write, and manipulate an image in many image formats, including popular formats like TIFF, JPEG, PNG, PDF, PhotoCD, and GIF. With ImageMagick, you can create images dynamically, making it suitable for Web applications. You can also resize, rotate, sharpen, color-reduce, or add special effects to an image and save your completed work in many different image formats. Image processing operations are available from the command line as well as through C, C++, and PERL-based programming interfaces.
Jhead is a command line utility for extracting digital camera settings from the EXIF format files used by many digital cameras. It handles the various confusing ways these can be expressed and displays them as F-stop, shutter speed, and more. It is also able to reduce the size of digital camera JPEG files without loss of information by deleting thumbnails that digital cameras put into the EXIF header.
Software to implement JPEG image compression and decompression. JPEG
(pronounced "jay-peg") is a standardized compression method for
full-color and grayscale images. JPEG is intended for compressing
"real-world" scenes (most of the time these are pictures that have been
scanned-in with a scanner or taken with a digital camera). Cartoons and
other nonrealistic images are not its strong suit. It should be noted
that JPEG output is not necessarily the same as its input. If this is a
factor for you, do not use it. With typical real-world scenes, JPEG can
achieve high compression rates without noticeable differences. If you
can accept pictures of lower quality, JPEG can achieve amazingly high
compression rates.
There are some library functions available for reading and writing JPEG
files. The 'cjpeg' and 'djpeg' applications use the library to make
conversions between JPEG and other popular graphic file formats
possible. The JPEG library is meant to be used within other
applications.
Cjpeg compresses the input file, or standard input if no filename is
given, and produces a JPEG/JFIF file as standard output. Currently
supported input file formats include: PPM (PBMPLUS color format), PGM
(PBMPLUS Grayscale format), BMP, GIF, Targa, and RLE (Utah Raster
Toolkit Format) (RLE is only supported if the RLE library is
available). Djpeg decompresses a JPEG file into one of the above
mentioned formats.

This package provides tools for graphics conversion. Using these tools, images can be converted from virtually any format into any other format. A few of the supported formats include: GIF, PC-Paintbrush, IFF ILBM, Gould Scanner file, MTV ray tracer, Atari Degas .pi1 and .pi3, Macintosh PICT, HP Paintjet file, QRT raytracer, AUTOCAD slide, Atari Spectrum (compressed and uncompressed), Andrew Toolkit raster object, and many more. OpenEXR is a high dynamic-range (HDR) image file format developed by Industrial Light & Magic for use in computer imaging applications. This package contains a set of utilities to work with this format.

OptiPNG is a PNG optimizer that recompresses image files to a smaller
size, without losing any information. This program also converts
external formats (BMP, GIF, PNM; TIFF support is coming up) to
optimized PNG, and performs PNG integrity checks and corrections.
pngcheck verifies the integrity of PNG, JNG and MNG files (by checking the
internal 32-bit CRCs or checksums) and optionally dumps almost all of the
chunk-level information in the image in human-readable form. For example, it
can be used to print the basic stats about an image (dimensions, bit depth,
etc.); to list the color and transparency info in its palette; or to extract
the embedded text annotations. All PNG and JNG chunks are supported, plus
almost all MNG chunks (everything but PAST, DISC, tERm, DROP, DBYK, and
ORDR). This is a command-line program with batch capabilities (e.g.,
``pngcheck *.png'').
