Main reason for using gdmd is that it has also been ported to s390x (among other
  archs) and that it "just works" OOTB
- upstream changes to master since 3.10 (most recent first, so descending order):
  - Fix for GLib 2.76
  - Drop -Xlinker for gdc
  - Update wrapped libraries to latest versions
  - Add Harfbuzz because Pango depends on it
  - Update for Glib 2.70

  Why use gdmd at all (instead of ldmd2)? Because it has also been ported to
  s390x
  Hope the override of the original version (GTKD_VERSION in the GNUmakefile
  and in the pkg naming is OK
