PPD files from OpenPrinting.org
To set up a printer configuration a printer description file
(PPD file) is required.
A printer description file is not a driver.
For non-PostScript printers a driver is needed
together with a PPD file which matches exactly
to the particular driver.
For PostScript printers, a PPD file alone is sufficient
(except for older PostScript level 1 printer models).
The PPD files are provided in the following sub-packages
depending on which kind of driver software is needed:
OpenPrintingPPDs-ghostscript provides PPDs
which use Ghostscript built-in drivers.
OpenPrintingPPDs-hpijs provides PPDs
which use the hpijs driver from HPLIP.
OpenPrintingPPDs-postscript provides PPDs
which need no driver.

Build broken since revision 27 - Switch to python3-cups to generate the metadata as python2 is being disabled with "nothing provides python3-cups" on SLE12 because of unconditioned "BuildRequires: python3-cups".
Is that a problem? Do we still need to maintain compatibillty with SLE12 for our bleeding-edge package?
Sigh - "simply change" and just push forward - yeah! No need to think about SLE and customers who pay us. Cf. "The main intent of the 'Printing' project" at https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/Printing and https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:How_to_contribute_to_the_Printing_project
Johannes,
That's certainly not my mind set. I think you know that. But how likely is it that we'll push this version of OpenPrintingPPDs to SLE12 customers?
Martin
The intent behind my comment was not clear. With probability one we will never push a newer version of OpenPrintingPPDs to SLE12 customers. "The main intent of the 'Printing' project" is to provide a newer version of OpenPrintingPPDs also to SLE12 users so that SLE12 users who need it could use the newer version from the 'Printing' project. The reason behind is described in the sections "Version upgrades for printer driver packages" in https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Installing_a_Printer and in https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:How_to_contribute_to_the_Printing_project The OpenPrintingPPDs is a bad example because it's actual content was not updated since a long time but Gutenprint is a good example where some particular SLE12 users may really need a newer driver version for whatever newer printer model.
What is stopping you from adding in simple conditional again? I just wonder if it was really best value for effort to spend writting comments long as this if it is 3 lines fix..
Did you make a bulk change? Because if not, I understand jsmeix' remark - why did you delete the conditional rather than fix it? And even if it was a bulk change, you could have used a submit request rather than a direct commit, giving others the chance to request modifications.
Yes, I could have fixed these 3 lines probably in less time than it took to write this comment. I guess it's about discussing how we can work together with less friction.
Perhaps you might even read what I wrote before replying?
Just do what you want as you want. I have many other and more important things to do.
