FreeCAD

Edit Package FreeCAD

FreeCAD is a general purpose feature-based, parametric 3D modeler for CAD, MCAD, CAx, CAE and PLM, aimed directly at mechanical engineering and product design but also fits a wider range of uses in engineering, such as architecture or other engineering specialties. It is 100% Open Source (LGPL2+ license) and extremely modular, allowing for very advanced extension and customization.

FreeCAD is based on OpenCasCade, a powerful geometry kernel, features an Open Inventor-compliant 3D scene representation model provided by the Coin 3D library, and a broad Python API. The interface is built with Qt. FreeCAD runs exactly the same way on Windows, Mac OSX, BSD and Linux platforms.

AppImage build seems currently broken. Wouldn't it be better to use the "build from source" approach here? Especially if we want to use the same yml for https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:yorikvanhavre/FreeCAD-git?

@adrianSuSE would you have a moment to respond to @probono ?

problem is that the build is anyway broken atm due to different Qt and pyside2/llvm problems.

I am absolut fine if someone wants to maintain a different appimage.yml build, building everything from source, but I won't maintain it. However, just create a submit request if you want to do it.

These problems are solved now

Hi Adrian, for some months now it has been impossible to use FreeCAD due to some undefined symbol when starting a workbench [errmsg]/usr/lib64/FreeCAD/lib64/Part.so: undefined symbol: _ZNK22Geom_ElementarySurface8PositionEv[/errmsg].

According to FreeCAD forum https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=44416&p=379270&hilit=opensuse#p379525 it's probably due to some packaging problem.

What do you think? Is this something you can do something about?

Hi @adrianSuSE, regarding those "unresolvable" and "failed" builds. What, would you say, could possibly solve them?

Anything on your behalf or the FreeCAD team? Or even, cooperation?

Hi @adrianSuSE, when and how is this updated. Is it an automated script that creates it when a new weekly build is realesed or is it done manualy?
