- Remove dependency on screen: ncurses is part of the distro
bootstrap and the less we need, the better.
Seems screen is not needed - and if I can minimize ring0 by this (and likely followed by libutempter) I am all for this.

NO ... I do not care about size but I care about tests which are working!! Use screen, tux, or provide a build system with working tty

Are you ok with a ncurses:testsuite - where I can run the tests in a 2nd flavor (post build) ?
I would prefere a working terminal during build ...
ncurses/ncurses-6.4> grep /dev/tty configure struct ttyent *fp = getttynam("/dev/tty"); (void)fp fd = open("/dev/tty", 2); /* O_RDWR */and also during %check ... (for bash e.g.)
