Revoking - sisctrl gets to live a bit longer.
I'm running into a roadblock in different packages that are not ready to give up on their gdk-pixbuf-xlib dep just yet (future versions look promising though). Hence revoke, as I will not be able to nuke gdk-pixbuf-xlib this side of the new year :-/
I guess you're talking about the native fb driver in the kernel, which was disabled in our kernel anyway since the beginning. I'm not aware of a SiS kms driver. We still have xf86-video-sis driver, which is still a userspace X driver. Hontestly I can't say if this driver is still working. sisctrl would still use this. I think if we want to drop sisctrl we should also drop xf86-video-sis. Most likely nobody will miss it ...
Well that is entirely up to you. - My main "goal" is porting and/or removing things depending on gdk-pixbuf-xlib (and for this package, I figured dropping was the best way forward). If you want to keep it around I'm perfectly fine with that too.
I was talking about the DRM drivers that got dropped:
Quote: Hitting the chopping block with the Linux 6.3 kernel are the following DRM drivers: i810, mga, r128, savage, sis, tdfx, and via. These drivers are for very old graphics/display hardware and no one has actively maintained these drivers in many years. Thus they are being removed from the mainline kernel.
Ah. These were the DRM driver for Mesa DRI, which has been dropped long ago. In theory sis userspace X driver (2D accelerated only) and sisctrl may still work, but it will get hard to find the appropriate hardware to test this. I no longer have SiS gfx cards.
I didn't know about your motivation. With that I'm fine dropping it. I don't want to block this just because of this no longer in wild existing SiS gfx cards.
Should I dig in my pile of PCI cards and check if I still have one? And a matching Pentium Motherboard maybe ;-) (just kidding)
