why do we need it? From the description it is some thing for Windows and we are dropping Microsoft services shortly...
Windows Active Directory -> in opens use is provided by SAMBA :D
It's one of the optional requirements for https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/devel:languages:python/python-impacket impacket is widely used by penetration testing and other handy network tools e.g. SMBMap - Samba Share Enumerator depends on impacket with this optional dsinternal library https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:mnhauke/smbmap it also doesn't matter what kind of SMB-implementation is on the other end (native Windows/Netapp/Samba/...) ;-)
