Overview
Request 1144236 accepted
fbiterm (xiterm) is a dead project - the latest change is from 2004. It does not appear to work well on recent kernels with several drivers
Factory has mlterm-sdl2 and SDL2 updated to not cache kernel keymap, both are projects actively maintained upstream.

Actually, it should be removed from the installation images, and if there still are any real dependencies, they should be removed. They were used for local virtual terminal text mode installation on machines that can't run X installation. Now even the weakest machines have enough memory to run X. And fbdev is emulated on current kernels, so there is no hardware that can run fbdev but can't run X.

Unignored: returned to active backlog.
Any progress here?
The request is 3 months old now.
The package does not build with gcc14, merging the request would be appreciated.
We use it currently to have the Gcc 14 test staging 'visible' (with a staged request) - The request is thus 'virtual' here only. We can merge it, but will need another SR to put into the Gcc14 test staging to not see it 'unused' in the dashboards.
installation-images is actually still using xiterm - so no progress from that side, which in turn means we can't drop it yet.
And is removing xiterm form installation-images tracked anywhere?
