Last release was in 2016, and a lot of fixes went into the github repo meanwhile. Maintainer astrand said that a new release would be a good idea, but did not find time to do it. As development now more or less stalled, a new release can not be expected. Fedora switched to using a master checkout as well. As the development tree fixes real issues and cherry-picking a lot of commits would be a hassle, switching to a master checkout seems reasonable.
- Update to master checkout b372f73:
* add -sensitive option
* works reliably for large data streams
* improved debug and checking facilities
* when pasting, don't clear selection unless -sensitive is given
* if stdin is a tty, choose appropriate -i or -o option as default mode
* numerous bug fixes (segfaults, resource leaks, null pointer dereference)

I would strongly suggest to use _service, anyways adding you as maintainer as current ones seem inactive
see comments at https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/1181768
I am going to revert whole change - I should have declined it
Sorry for the hassle. A bit academic though, as I don't expect any new check-in's any time soon, the last one was more than 2 year ago. I never wrote a _service job, so I will need some time to do it. Other possibility would be to use the URL https://github.com/astrand/xclip/archive/b372f73579d30f9ba998ffd0a73694e7abe2c313.tar.gz
Don't know if this would be acceptable.
