waiting for LO fix
Waiting means breaking other packages. What's the libreoffice issue? and why isn't the package from the devel project submitted?

I am also eagerly waiting for the boost update to fix packages. Note that there is at least a workaround for the quadmath error: boo#1225861
Maybe you should explain the problem you have with the old boost package: E.g. whether there is a build failure in e.g. Factory right now, with gcc14 or an package update needs boost 1.86.
Otherwise an consideration of the pros and cons seems impossible.
I'm mostly concerned about the krita issue which is caused by the bogus quadmath include that is fixed by this SR.
The Krita build failure is caused by boost::multiprecision (through boost::geometry) when libquadmath is missing and should be fixed in 1.86. The specific upstream commit is https://github.com/boostorg/multiprecision/commit/317627c43a7517b46bf16beb1b5e4db16fcd0814
So libreoffice builds in a test project using boost 1.86 (see https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:krop:LO_test) but fails in staging (https://build.opensuse.org/package/live_build_log/openSUSE:Factory:Staging:F/libreoffice/standard/x86_64)
Seems arch added https://github.com/boostorg/compute/commit/f8e5e3543723379bb6a9dd9d88415a993653e70a.patch and https://github.com/boostorg/compute/commit/79452d5279831ee59a650c17b71259a821f1a554.patch to their boost 1.86 package
