I believe that this change is wrong and has weird effects on users who install software on OpenSUSE and then expect to be able to use that software in documented ways outside of rpmbuild.

Please fix "python-rpm-macros" instead of patching the behavior of upstream projects. Thanks.

That would only not be the case if allof(

  • The user has SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH set
  • is building non-isolated
  • the build dir, a name which is used by many non-meson project, poses a problem to the module to be compiled.
  • The user is not able to set his own build-dir setting

I tested python-gobject (with debuginfo enabled) and it becomes bit-reproducible with this patch.
