How is one supposed to interpret the colon and the 0x72?
I have a 06-45-01 (cpuid level 13), and the "microcode:" line in /proc/cpuinfo already contains 0x21 with ucode-intel-20170707, so this can't be a thing new to the 2018 version, can it? @trenn
Argh, I did not use reply. Answer see below.
This has been taken over from the release notes. At least Intel is finally providing a bit of information. I haven't double checked, though.
Could it be that your system's BIOS already includes CPU microcode 0x21? Did you do a BIOS update recently? Please check dmesg whether your BIOS got updated by ucode-intel package.
If you check the build log of current openSUSE:Factory (version 20170707) you see: https://build.opensuse.org/build/openSUSE:Factory/standard/x86_64/ucode-intel/_log [ 13s] intel-ucode/06-45-01 [ 13s] signature: 0x40651 [ 13s] flags: 0x72 [ 13s] revision: 0x20 [ 13s] date: 2017-01-27 [ 13s] size: 20480
And if you compare the builds of the version I submitted: [ 25s] intel-ucode/06-45-01 [ 25s] signature: 0x40651 [ 25s] flags: 0x72 [ 25s] revision: 0x21 [ 25s] date: 2017-11-20 [ 25s] size: 22528
you see that there is a new microcode Version for your CPU included. You probably got it through BIOS update already.
Ah, interesting.
