Erm.. you'd seen that as-glib is updated by means of a source service?

I did. But I thought it wouldn't matter where the tarball came from.

Either we use the source service (which we do as we very often have to go beyond the tag) or we don't; running the source service now will give a source validation error, as the URL does not match the tarball.
