This will break a "no recommends" installation. Which is a good thing, maybe they'll learn...
The intention would actually be to remove the need for no recommends but it's certainly not to break that mode. Where do you see an issue?
I only read the changelog so far, which implied that it now relies on supplements instead of pulling it in directly.
It looks like you only dropped those for packages which were only recommended anyway, so it shouldn't make a difference in this case.
Of course only if the bug about onlyRequires also ignoring hardware and other virtual supplements is fixed meanwhile...
