Overview
Seems backward to me, TW and later should be using libalternatives, if at all as I do not think there was consensus on the packaging list. As defined openSUSE Leap 15 and later as well as SLE 15 and later would end up with libalternatives. We should not make changes to those two streams, IMHO
Well, the packaging list has had more or less the result "undecision". So we have started to switch the packages to libalternatives around MicroOS at least in order to get a feeling, how it works. It looks quite good up to now. In the past we have had a lot of troubles with update-alternatives which results often to dead links e.g. while an update. Besides that libalternatives does not use /etc directory (like update-alternatives) anymore, which fulfills another concept for the future. Yes, you are right. Libalternatives will be supported by TW and later SLES versions only. There will no backward compatibility.
