The sed snippet (may be I made some mistake) did not work as you suggested, although the '\@' trick works, and I am very grateful to have learnt how to get rid of the repeated '\/', I still needed the curly brackets. It's all in the superseding rq. Thanks again.
Indeed, the braces are required - as written, it is invalid; chaining of adresses is not allowed.
